June 2026

The Leaders Corner

From Your Co-Leads Laurie Harley & Vlad Haltigin

We don’t have to tell you it’s been a very busy spring for the NOTL Ambassadors!

On the street, in just the month of May, our Team of 110 volunteers engaged with 15,206 visitors.  That’s more than we welcomed in the entire season in 2024!

But our activities this spring went well beyond greeting visitors.  From orientation and tech training for our 28 newest members, to ordering new attire, to mentor/mentee coaching, we’ve probably spent more time in the Tourism office than ever before.

It’s no surprise that with so much going on we’d experience a few growing pains. And we have, especially when it come to sharing space and amenities with Tourism and Chamber staff.

As Ambassadors, we’re known for our energy and enthusiasm and we bring that to the office when we arrive for our shifts.  What we sometimes forget is that staff in the reception area are busy talking with guests while others are working in an open-office setting along the lower hallway.  Our Tourism and Chamber colleagues tell us that noise levels and interruptions are having a negative impact on their work environment.

We’ve met with Tourism and Chamber management to develop a  “Visitor Centre Etiquette” document for Ambassadors.  There are a few simple things we can do to ensure we are good neighbours, sharing space respectfully with staff. You’ll find the etiquette list below. Please note that the small washroom will no longer be available for Ambassador use.  The plumbing is old and it’s not able to handle increased usage.  We’re asked to use the public washrooms – they’re close and more reliable.

We’re confident we can make the shared space work effectively for Ambassadors and our Tourism and Chamber colleagues.   Josh will be there from Thursdays to Mondays to remind and help us follow the etiquette points and Vlad and I are always available if you have questions or comments.

Ambassador Parking at Fort George

What happens when you have a problem finding parking ……

All indications are this is going to be a very busy season for visitors to NOTL.  And that means finding parking for your shift may be a challenge.

We have Town stickers or permits we can use but what happens when we just can’t find a place to park?

Thanks to our partner, Parks Canada, we now have a solution.  Ambassadors will be able to park at Fort George and then hop on the free shuttle to arrive at the Court House for our shifts,

Here's how the process works:

  • Park your vehicle in the Fort George visitor parking lot

  • Go to the Visitor Centre located in the bus lot at Fort George where you will complete a form and sign for a parking pass

  • Passes are kept in an Ambassador binder under the counter at the front desk; Tourism staff can show you where to find it

  • Return to your vehicle and leave the pass where it is visible on your dashboard

  • Take the shuttle to the Court House; on weekends there will be 3 buses operating so wait times should be short (15 minutes or less)

  • After your shift, return on the shuttle; return the pass to the Visitor Centre at Fort George and sign the form to acknowledge its return

There are 7 passes available for each shift - enough to cover all volunteers each day.  The passes are only valid on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm.

If you use the Fort George parking option, please tell us about your experience.  You can send a note to info@notl-ambassadors.ca or just share your comments with Josh.  It’s a new process and we value your feedback.

Happy Parking!

Experience NOTL

Niagara-on-the-Lake In Bloom

The word that best describes the 2026 NOTL In Bloom Ambassador experience is OUTSTANDING!  The number of visitors at the Court House increased by 85% over 2025.  If we thought 2,427 visitors were amazing last year, this year's 4,489 was incredible!  We greeted visitors from 17 different countries and 9 US states.  The event organizing team from Vintage Hotels reached out to Laurie with the following note...

Thank you to you and your truly amazing group of volunteers for the support and time in elevating the visitor experience for Bloom and for the season!  This group of inspiring and community minded people is to be commended.  What an exceptional group of partners - What a town!

Summer Shifts Released

The Summer Shifts (Jun 29 - Sep 7) for Kiosk, Court House, and Walking have been released, so feel free to sign up for as many shifts as you like!

Your Safety is a priority

It is very unlikely, but certainly possible that you may experience an incident involving a fellow Ambassador or a visitor and therefore, we would like to remind you about a few key health & safety points.

Court House Guest Book

When you are working at the Court House on the first shift (11:45 - 2:00), we would request that you write in the current date in the Guest Book.  This will help identify which day the guest visited and will give you some valuable intel to help you with your Post Shift Report.

New Post Shift Feedback form for 2026

Just a reminder that we should be using the 2026 version of the Post Shift Feedback form.  Be sure to use the new link.

Tech Tip - Accessing MAP

Are you having a problem accessing MAP or have you forgotten your User ID or Password?   If so, you can review the attached Tech Tip document that contains step-by-step instructions.  If you still need assistance, please contact Elena at elenamb@notl-ambassadors.ca .

Calendar of Events

If you find an event is full, you have the opportunity to add your name to a backup list.  Instructions on how to do that are available in MAP.  When cancellations occur we look to the backup list to fill those spots.

Life happens!  If you are no longer able to attend a scheduled shift or event, we kindly ask that you cancel in MAP at least 48 hours in advance.  For cancellations within the 48-hour window, please notify us directly at info@notl-ambassadors.ca with 'CANCELLATION' in the subject line.  As our group has grown to over 100 volunteers, this protocol is essential to ensure we can offer the spot to others on the wait list.

We value our long-standing relationships with our Community Partners who make these visits possible and are grateful for their support of continuous learning for Ambassadors.

Every Visitor ..Every Encounter ..An Extraordinary Experience

Thank you, Ambassadors for all that you do!  You are a vital and vibrant part of our wonderful NOTL community!
