The Leaders Corner
From Your Co-Leads Laurie Harley & Vlad Haltigin
July was certainly a month to
remember!
It all started with
record-setting heat and humidity on Canada Day, July 1. Over the next 30 days we experienced
dangerous air quality from wildfires burning in northern Ontario, culminating
last week with flooding from torrential rains.
We’re all crossing our fingers that August brings much improved weather
to avoid shift cancellations.
The poor air quality led us
to revisit our weather cancellation policy.
In addition to heat and rain cancellation we’ve added “air quality”. Any
time Environment Canada issues an index of 10+ (very high health risk), outdoor
shifts will automatically be cancelled.
If the index is in the 7-10 range (high health risk), a decision will be
made by 9:30 am on the day of the scheduled shift based on local
conditions. But if you anticipate any
health concerns, please withdraw from your shift. You are the only person who can assess your individual health
risks and make the best personal decision.
At the end of August, we’ll
be saying “goodbye” to Josh as his summer assignment comes to an end. Sean McGoldrick (yes, he’s Shelley’s son) has
just joined the Tourism Niagara-on-the-Lake Team and will be taking on Josh’s
role until the end of our season in October.
Please stop by when you’re on shift to thank Josh for all his support
and introduce yourself to Sean.
The end of July marks another
opportunity for us to recognize our amazing volunteers. Congratulations to Debra Rowe this
month’s “Ambassador of the Month” and to Sylvie van Wissen, the winner
of the “Stars on the Street” draw. Read
more about them later in this issue.
We hope you have your
calendars marked for Wednesday, August 5, from 2 until 3:30 pm for the
mid-season Ambassador Checkpoint meeting. The Leadership Team will be covering the
highlights of the season so far, but more importantly it’s our chance to hear
from you. There will be an “open mic” Q&A session as well as four polling
questions to gather insights for 2027 planning. It’s a virtual meeting - just click on the
link below to join the conversation.

We’ll be looking for you
virtually on August 5th!
