Communiqué for NOTL Ambassadors and our Partners!

September 2025

The Leaders Corner

From Your Co-Leads Laurie Harley & Vlad Haltigin

It’s hard to believe it’s the end of September!  The weather keeps reminding us of summer and the visitors just keep coming.  There have been days when you’ve engaged with close to 250 people at the Welcome Centre Kiosk and continued to welcome over 500 visitors to the Court House.  We’re on track to reach 50,000 engagements this season.  Absolutely AMAZING!

In this issue, we’re delighted to recognize our third “Ambassador of the Month”.  Cheers go out to Yvonne McMorrough who volunteered for a total of 9 shifts in the month of August.  When you see her strolling the streets of Old Town or inviting guests to tour the Court House, be sure to congratulate her for her outstanding contribution.

While we’ll officially hang up our hats after Thanksgiving, there are still a number of key activities on our calendar.

October 18 - Doors Open

The Court House and the Kisok will be open on Saturday, October 18.  That’s the day Niagara-on-the-Lake opens its doors to many historical and cultural gems, some not normally open to the public.  There are still a few shifts available for signup in MAP.

October 20 – End-of-Season Event

You’ve made the 2025 season the most successful yet.  Now it’s time to celebrate!  Join us on Monday, October 20 from 4 to 6 pm for fun and refreshments in the Barn at the Monet Gardens, Pillar and Post.  Please let us know you’re coming by signing up in MAP by October 3.

December 5 – Candlelight Stroll

Watch for an announcement in early November on how Ambassadors will participate in this iconic event that launches the holiday season in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

January 16/17 & 24/25 2026 – Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine Village

The new year will be here before we know it and with it comes the arrival of the 2026 Wineries of NOTL’s Icewine Festival.  You’ll find rack cards promoting the Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine Village already available at the Kiosk. Similar to last year, there will be an Information Session this fall to share details of the event.  We’ll announce that meeting as soon as the date and venue are confirmed.

For the Leadership Team, it’s time to start planning for next year.  One key element of our planning process is gathering your feedback on this year’s program.  You’ll be invited to participate in an Annual Ambassador Survey that will be launched the week of October 20th.  Please find time to respond and tell us about your Ambassador experience.  With your comments and suggestions for improvement, we’ll make 2026 an even better season.

Ambassador Team

Ambassador of the Month - August - Congratulations to Yvonne McMorrough!

If you’ve had the opportunity to partner with Yvonne on a shift, you’ll know why we call her our “resident expert” on all things involving local history.  Since 2023, she’s been sharing that knowledge with us and with visitors.  Whether visitors speak English, French, German or Spanish she can connect with them in their language of choice.

In August, Yvonne topped the chart when it came to volunteer shifts.  She loves to walk but her favourite station this year is the Court House.  To quote Yvonne, “I absolutely love it”!  You’ll often find her in the Board Room, among the artifacts and historical documents, explaining the history of the building and its importance in the story of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

By the time this issue of the BEAT is published, Yvonne will just be getting off a plane returning from a month in Austria.  She’ll return to a warm welcome and the news that she is our August Ambassador of the Month.

Thanks to a very special Partner, Arterra Wines Canada, Yvonne and a guest will  be heading to the Entourage Room overlooking the vineyard at Jackson-Triggs Estate Winery.  It will be a well-deserved opportunity to relax, dine and enjoy the stunning view at one of NOTL’s premier wineries.

Congratulations, Yvonne, and thank you for everything you do to support the Ambassadors!

Ambassador for a Day

Guess who’s joining us on October 4th as an “Ambassador for a Day”?  We’ve had the privilege of hosting NOTL Councillors Niven and Vizzari .  Now, thanks to an invitation from Lin Slee, the Lord Mayor, Gary Zalepa, will join us to experience the Ambassador role first-hand. The Ambassadors have a very special relationship with the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and we’re delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor as an “Ambassador for a Day”.

Celebrating Carter in Sault Ste Marie

Congratulations to our fellow Ambassador, Carter Simpson, for being inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Sault Ste Marie.  A formal ceremony with the Mayor and Committee Members was held and then a Meet & Greet event took place at the Art Gallery of Algoma.  Carter’s mother AnnLiz, family, and friends were there to celebrate, along with his first-ever ski coach Mya Park Rice.  What an accomplishment - Congratulations Carter!!!
